P L A N N I N G T H E P R O C E S S

As I was impatiently waiting to move into our new home, I wanted to start planning as soon as I could. In the past, I was always so quick to buy decor that was just "cute" but I found that after a couple of months I didn't really love it as much as I thought. My goal was to plan a lot better this time around.

Now, I got some moral support in my design decisions for two reasons; 1) help with brainstorming ideas, 2) "What the hell are you thinking" moments: when your judgement is not on par, and they knock you back in your place. Its abrasive, and it works.

I don't think I've ever used my computer so much in my life, or online shopped so much! The list of things I needed kept growing and so did the budget (YIKES!). To get an idea of what I was really looking for I used an app called Pages in order to get some visuals going. Again I wanted my designs to be thought out and inspired rather than the willy-nilly approach I was used to taking.

For those of you who have never used Pages, it's an app that can be used to piece images together, or make diagrams (it has many other functions but this isn't an infomercial so that's all you get lol). For lack of a better description, it's a poor mans Photoshop, because who wants to pay for creative cloud when you dont have to:

Here is where the planning really began, I made a mock up of what the living room looked like and what I was thinking of placing in it! It was extremely fun and it helped bring to life what I was picturing in my mind. Being new to bringing in new textures and patterns together, I needed to be sure it was the right fit before I purchased:

One of my biggest Designer inspirations is Genevieve Gorder, and if you don't know who she is ... look her up because she is all types of fabulous. She's the best at mixing bohemian patterns with chic pieces that set a room on fire! Now that I had my ducks in a row, a good vision in mind and set the tone for the direction I wanted to take, it was time to pull some triggers ;)
