M OV I N G : P H A S E T H R E E
Hello Darlings,
Now that you've successfully purged all the things you don't need, and packed up all the things you do, it is time to make this house a home!
PHASE THREE:
Unpacking!
Now to backtrack just a smidge, I would highly advise that on moving day, put all the boxes you have in the rooms that they are labeled, this will make it a lot easier on you on unpacking day(s). As I've said before, moving is not a hindrance, it's an opportunity! Phase Three is probably my favorite for a few different reasons: 1) You get to start with a blank slate, 2) You get to organize your home EXACTLY how you want it, 3) There is a high accountability to get the work done because no one wants to live out of boxes! This is usually my strategy:
1. Get Organized. Be thorough in your unpacking, make a calendar of what rooms you need to unpack first. Make sure you take the extra time to organize that closet, pantry, cabinet or whatever it may be for that room. Start off on a good foot, and it will be so much easier to maintain throughout the years of your time there.
2. Utilize Your Space. I know under the sink may seem like a dreary land of nothingness, but make it count! it's still space, so make it worth something. There are many different ways you can use this space to store cleaning products, extra pots and pans, sponges, soaps, and hand towels. The Dollar Tree (or any dollar store) can offer many small racks and baskets in order to organize these miscellaneous items so you don't have to throw them all in one pile.
3. Have Inspiration. Although this process is a great opportunity it could also be very draining. Pull out your phone and hop on Pinterest. Let it do the thinking for you! Have an awkward space you don't know how to fill? Or a box of miscellaneous items you don't know how to place? Maybe you just want to know how to decorate a room! Doesn't matter, because just like wine, Pinterest is always there for you.
4. Clean As You Go. Notice a theme here? It's all for good reason. It is always best to clean as you go rather than waiting until you're tired and drained from the process of unpacking to then have to go back and make your house spotless. It's a little more work up front but the reward is so worth it!
5. Plan A Celebration. Plan a night of rest and rejuvenation after you're finished unpacking. This will help in a few ways; It will give you a due date for when you need to be completely unpacked. It will also give you something to look forward to. You should celebrate all of your hard work, put your feet up and crack open a bottle because, you did it!
Well there you have it, this is my moving process, and it has served me well. I hope this makes your experience better and as it still a lot of work, hopefully at the end you will feel a well-deserved sense of accomplishment.
