Buying a home... W O W!
The process can go one of two ways: Awful, terrifying, and completely stressful OR exciting, fun, and a little stressful. Let's be honest whenever there are hundreds of thousands of dollars involved there is going to be stress. The biggest step is PRAY PRAY PRAY!
My husband (Diego) and I thought let's buy a home after our daughter was born, maybe when she was about 3 or 4 months old. We'll have a good down payment saved and she'll be old enough that we could manage things a little better. But with our finances in order, and all of our debt paid off, we figured what better time to start talking to lenders and agents to see what was out there, just to be ahead of the game.
Diego and I talked it over and decided to ask our financial advisor of three years, to be our agent (as he also had his real estate license) we knew we made the right decision. He encouraged us to try and move in before baby was due, and I am so glad he did! Our agent was also able to refer us to about three different lenders, and we found the perfect fit for us. When we picked our "Buy a Home" team it was the best decision we ever made.
TIP: To make it easier on you, get an agent who knows their stuff, and is active in getting things done quickly. Find a Lender who is invested in you and your needs as their customer, contact 3-4 lenders and make them compete for your business, this is how you get the best deal. Diego and I were very blessed to work with two amazing Christians, our agent, and our lender.
We set out a timeline: 6 weeks. We had six weeks to find a home and open escrow, aggressive timeline I know, but we trusted that God would bless us. This would give us time to move, unpack and settle in before little Kennedy was due to join us (in December). To make a long incredible story short... we found a condo within two and a half weeks and opened escrow.
We are now in the process of taking this condo that we found in a pile of condos, that seemed to all run together at one point, and making it OUR home. I want you to come on this journey with me! From moving to budgeting, from floor plans to home renovations...welcome to my home!
